From the Anvil to the Altar: My Gretna Green Connection

From the Anvil to the Altar: My Gretna Green Connection

Before Carole and I settled into our current Sanquhar setup, we spent some time living in a place synonymous with love and rebellion: Gretna Green.

Living in the shadow of the famous Blacksmith’s Shop, you can’t help but be moved by the history of the "runaway marriage." For centuries, young couples fled across the border to be married over the anvil—the heavy iron block becoming a symbol of a bond that couldn't be broken.

A Thousand "I Dos"

Reflecting on our time in Gretna Green makes us realize just how far our jewelry has traveled. Over the years, Elvenstar Design pieces have appeared in thousands of marriages all over the globe.

Knowing that a tiara we forged in our studio is being worn in a woodland wedding in America, or a hand-hammered band is being exchanged on a clifftop in Cornwall and immortalised in cherished photographs is a massive honor. We aren’t just making jewelry; we are making future heirlooms that carry the same spirit of romance and tradition that has made Gretna Green legendary for centuries.

Whether you are "running away" for a private ceremony or celebrating with a grand handfasting, we are proud to provide the handcrafted details that make your day feel timeless.
